Bill Avra, DVM

Dr. Avra is a 1981 graduate of the University of Georgia.  Originally from Atlanta, Dr. Avra has lived in Forsyth County since 1981.  He practiced large and small animal medicine prior to founding Forsyth Animal Hospital in 1985.  Dr. Avra has a special interest in small animal surgery and has completed post graduate courses in joint surgery, fracture repair, cancer management and canine reproduction.  Dr. Avra has also completed over 650 hours of continuing education.  Dr. Avra's passion is surgery and he accepts cases from a number of neighboring clinics.


Dr. Avra and his wife Leslie, along with his 4 children: Jessica, Kaitlin, Tucker and Emily enjoy boating, fishing, and raising beef cattle.

Vanessa Dodson, DVM

Dr. Dodson is a 2002 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.  Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Dodson completed her Bachelors Degree in Animal Science from Cornell University.  Her special interest includes surgery, pediatric spays and neuters, dentistry and feline medicine.


Dr. Dodson and her husband Tom and daughters Madeline and Amelia live in Sugar Hill.  They share their house with 2 dogs, Cooper and Bella and 3 cats Felix, Calvin and Mallory.

Gale Galland, DVM, DACVPM

Dr. Galland graduated from the University of Georgia Vet School in 1986 and worked with us full time for almost two years before she branched off into the world of research and public health with the CDC.  Since then she has continued to work with us as a relief veterinarian.


Dr. Galland has been married to Bud for over 35 years.  They have 3 children: Grant, Lanie and Davis along with Snickers the cat and Odum the dog.

Heather Wood, DVM

Dr. Wood is a 2007 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.  Orginally from Tampa, FL. she has close ties to Macon.  Her special interest includes internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, neurology and exotic animal medicine.  Dr. Wood is also the Medical Director for the Forsyth County Humane Society.


Dr. Wood and her husband Scotty live in Alpharetta with Finnigan the dog.  

Teri Meyer, RVT

Teri assists the doctors in all areas of the clinic.  Teri has a special interest in nutrition and is studying to become a board certified veterinary technician nutritionist.  She is also interested in oncology and surgery.


Teri and her husband, Kendell live in Cumming with her children Tanner and Taryn, her dogs Hattie and Bondeaux and her chickens.

Karen Voerg

Karen is our Hospital Supervisor.  Her office duties include managing the doctor and staff schedule and she also serves as our credit manager.  Prior to joining us in 1991, she had six years experience in the veterinary field.  She is a veterinary dietitian and an expert in pet care products.


Karen and her husband, Ricky live on their horse farm with Dewey the Dachshund, Sara the Jack Russell and show Hackney Ponies.

Leslie Avra

Leslie joined the staff in 2012 as our Practice Manager.  She has an extensive history in managing a medical insurance office.  In 2011, Leslie went back to school and completed her degree as a Certified Medical Assistant.


Leslie is married to Dr. Bill Avra.  She has two sons and a grandson.  Leslie enjoys kayaking and feeding the cows.

Dal Dunagan, RVT

After having been a client of Forsyth Animal Hospital for over 20 years.  Dal had the opportunity to return to college and earn his degree in Veterinary Technology.  He worked part time with us while obtaining his degree.  After passing his board exam, he joined our team full time.


Dal lives in Cumming with his wife, Elise, his three dogs Jackson, Cochise and Elizabeth Clair, and three cats Sophie, Jessie and Poncho-Chang.

Kirsten Fess

Kirsten has enjoyed working with us since 1999.  She is our skilled veterinary assistant and groomer.


Kirsten lives in Gainesville with her husband Gabe and their new baby, Liam.  They share their house with the dogs Willoughby and Delia and the cats Pesto and Striped.

Patsy Rojas

Patsy joined our staff in 2011.  She is a receptionist and veterinary assistant.  She was a member of the German Shepard Dog Rescue of Georgia for 7 years.


Patsy and her husband, JC live in Cumming with Bear the dog and Rosie the parrot.

Sonya Shah

Sonya joined our staff in 2001.  She works in several areas of our hosptal including Veterinary Assisting and Receptionist. 


Sonya and her husband, David live with one dog, one cat, three turtles and seven fish.

Jessica Wheeler

Jessica is our full-time kennel assistant and is training to be a veterinary assistant.  Her parents have been clients for several years.  Jessica has a big heart and love for animals.


Jessica adopted her two dogs, Banjo and Charlie after working here.  She takes great care of our boarders while they are here with us.
